There is quite a long tradition of gold mining research in the area of the Apuseni Mountains, starting with the testimonies of some Middle Age forerunners. They were followed by the Austrian and Hungarian mineralogists and archaeologists of the 19th century, such as Téglás Gábór, Johann Michael Ackner and Franz Posepny.
